The largest housing development on New York’s Staten Island, Stapleton Houses has provided affordable housing to qualifying residents for 55 years. Consisting of six buildings, each with eight stories, the development houses over 2,000 people. It operates under the management of the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA).
In recent years, Preferred Utilities Manufacturing Corporation installed a high-efficiency, low-emissions API Inject-Aire burner at Stapleton Houses. Within the burner’s first year in operation, the NYCHA experienced notable electric and fuel savings while simultaneously prolonging the life of the Stapleton Houses’ boiler. The API Inject-Aire burner also reduced the Stapleton Houses’ carbon footprint, significantly limiting greenhouse gas emissions and cutting nitrogen oxide emissions by more than 50 percent. Overall, the NYCHA has reported an 85 percent reduction in electricity consumption with the API Inject-Aire as compared with other burners it has purchased and installed.
